10 At Home Valentine’s Day Ideas

Valentine’s Day is around the corner! I have not thought about it at all considering the first few months of this new year is a little crazy for us. We have a lot going on at the same time. Because of that we’ve decided to do less this Valentine’s Day.

We don’t usually do anything crazy. We’ll do some fun stuff together all day just Sal and me. Sometimes just a dinner and a movie. Maybe have the kids sleep over someone’s house so we can have the house to ourselves.

Valentine’s Day is on a Monday this year. We’ll be “celebrating” the day before and we’ll do it at home. And we’ll be including the kids. If you too are wanting to be more low key with this holiday this year, I’ve listed below 10 at home Valentine’s Day ideas you can enjoy with your loved one.

1. Paint, Wine, Chocolates

I found this girl on Instagram. She sells kits on her Etsy shop for you to paint by numbers and the end result is gorgeous! It’s something I’d actually hang in my house. They are so cute. You can order the kits to have it delivered to you. On Valentine’s Day you set up your space with some candles, music, chocolates and wine and then paint. Search “paint by numbers” on Etsy to find different kits. I also found some at Michael’s. Here’s a link to one of my favorite ones that I found –> Paint by Number

2. Romantic Dinner

Create a menu days before. Pick an appetizer, entree, and a dessert. You can get real fancy with it. Like making a lobster. Or really simple: Alfredo. Either way have fun creating a menu. Set the table with candles and pretty settings. You can make dinner together or surprise them.

3. Order Take Out and Stream

Instead of getting your kitchen dirty… Order Take Out!! Order from your favorite restaurant or try something new. Pick a movie you’ve been wanting to watch, or binge a few episodes of a show you’ve been wanting to finish (or start). Netflix and Chill 😉

4. Puzzle

Sal and I enjoy doing puzzles. If you do too, go to the store together and pick a puzzle. I know Hobby Lobby and Michaels have a huge selection of puzzles. And then also, find a couples questionnaire. One that has some really good questions and ask them while you work on the puzzle. Hopefully you’ll learn more about each other or just make for interesting conversation. Add some wine to the mix as well. Depending how many pieces the puzzle is, with the questions and wine, you may or may not finish it.

5. Scavenger Hunt

If you decided to buy each other gifts, do a scavenger hunt for your partner to find it. I’m not good at creating scavenger hunts, but I do like the hunting part. If you’re creative, this one will be fun to do. I’m sure you can get some inspiration from google on scavenger clues.

6. Breakfast in Bed

Since Valentine’s Day is on a Monday, most people will be enjoying the night for celebration. Buttt, if you’re an early riser, you can make a beautiful breakfast and serve it in bed. And I say heart shaped everything — eggs, bacon, pancakes/waffles. You can also not be a morning person to do this. That’s me… Whenever I serve my husband breakfast in bed he knowsssss I love him.

7. DIY Spa Day

Create a spa day. Find massage therapists that will go to your home and do a couples massage. You can also massage each other. Make some DIY face masks. Trim and buff each other’s nails. Don’t forget the champagne and chocolate covered strawberries!

8. Game Night

Find some games that are 2 people friendly. Video games, game cards, dominoes, checkers, chess, etc., and have fun together. Make it more interesting by making the loser of the game drink. The game can get a little funny after a couple of drinks… Be creative.

9. Questions

The questionnaire that I mentioned before, you can pretty much add them to any of the above. You can make the night just about the questions too. Sit on the couch with your preferred drink, cheese, cold cuts, sweets and ask away.

10. Add the Kids

If you got them like us, have the kids join you. Bake cookies together after dinner. Play some games or watch a movie together. Let them stay up a little later than usual and let them enjoy the day of Love along with mom and dad.

I used to be all about making a huge deal about Valentine’s Day. Going to a nice restaurant with the chocolates and flowers and all of that. We should just make a big deal about spending time with the one you love. Especially when it’s your significant other. Whatever excuse you can find to spend quality time together, take it and be intentional and be present.

Have fun and enjoy your Valentine’s Day. Or maybe a Galentine’s Day!?

Let me know below what your plans are and if I missed any other ideas for an at home celebration.
